Tile and flooring estimator

Enter the area to cover and your tile size. Counts use the epsilon safe ceiling BuildTrue applies everywhere, so an exact fit never orders one extra tile. Inputs are metric, and results show imperial equivalents.

Estimator

Formula: tile area = tile length x tile width. Area with waste = area x (1 + waste / 100). Tiles = ceiling of (area with waste / tile area). Boxes = ceiling of (tiles / tiles per box). Grout guidance stated: about 1 bag (10 kg) per 10 sq m of tiled area with waste, actual use varies with joint width and tile thickness.

Worked example: Area 10 sq m, tile 300 mm by 300 mm, waste 10 percent, 10 tiles per box. Tile area is 0.09 sq m. Area with waste is 11 sq m. Tiles = 11 / 0.09 = 122.22, rounded up to 123 tiles. Boxes = 123 / 10 = 12.3, rounded up to 13 boxes. Grout = 11 / 10 = 1.1, rounded up to 2 bags.
Estimates only. Layout, pattern, joint width, and substrate change real needs. Verify quantities before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

How much waste should I allow for tile?

Straight layouts in square rooms often plan 10 percent. Diagonal layouts, large format tile, and rooms with many cuts often plan 15 percent or more. Enter your allowance and the counts update.

Why does the tile count round up?

Tiles are sold and laid as whole units, and cuts consume partial tiles. The estimator rounds up with an epsilon safe ceiling, so you never come up short and an exact division never adds a phantom tile.
