Framing pack: estimate, check, and order

A complete wall framing job in one page for Canadian contractors, renovators, and serious DIY builders. Run the calculator, work the pre-job checklist, fill in the material list in purchasable units, and take the print page to the truck or the supplier counter. All results are estimates.

Standalone calculator: Framing lumber estimator on the BuildTrue home page. This hub bundles the same math with the job paperwork around it.

Framing lumber calculator

For one straight wall. Openings are not deducted and need extra framing. This section is a full duplicate of the standalone framing calculator logic, adapted as a self-contained section for this hub page. See the integration note for the reasoning.

Canada default is metric. Switch at any time: the values on screen convert so the physical size stays the same. Results show both systems.

Formula: field studs = ceiling of (wall length / spacing), plus 1 end stud, plus 2 extra studs as a corners and intersections allowance. Plates: 3 rows total (1 bottom plate plus double top plate), reported as linear length. Whole counts use an epsilon safe ceiling.

Worked example: Wall 6 m long (19.69 ft), spacing 16 in (1.333 ft). Field = ceiling of (19.69 / 1.333) = ceiling of 14.76 = 15, plus 1 end, plus 2 corner allowance = 18 studs. Plates linear = 6 m x 3 = 18 linear metres (59.1 linear feet). In 4.8 m stock lengths, plates = ceiling of (18 / 4.8) = 4 pieces. Full arithmetic is in the worked example file in this pack.
Estimates only. Not a structural or code compliance calculation. Verify framing design professionally.
